Tummy Tuck Surgery.

Even men or women who are in otherwise relatively good shape can be troubled by a large fat deposit in the abdominal area, or by loose that won't respond to exercise or diet. For many women, the abdominal area loses its elasticity after multiple pregnancies, and after significant weight loss, the loose, sagging skin refuses to return to normal. Aging, too, can result in lost skin elasticity. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding stomach caused by these conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the goals of the procedure?

To remove excess fat and skin from the lower and middle abdominal area and tighten the muscles of the abdomen wall, recontouring the region so as to eliminnate or reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen.

How long will the surgery take?

Abdominoplasty procedures usually take 2-5 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery and the area involved. A partial abdominoplasty may take from 1-2 hours.

What can I expect after surgery?

Depending on the extent and the area affected, your surgery may be performed as an outpatient procedure, or you may need to remain hospitalized for 2-3 days after the surgery. For several days, your abdomen will be swollen and you may feel some pain and discomfort, which can be controlled through medication. The surface stitches will be removed in 5-7 days, and the stitches beneath the skin will come out in 2-3 weeks. You will have gauze dressings on your incision sites and you will be wearing a specially designed compression garment. Final recontouring of the area may take from 4-6 months. When you can do so comfortably, you should begin to exercise as allowed, since this will reduce swelling and lower the chance of blood clots as well as toning your muscles.

When can I return to work?

Depending on the areas treated, you may return to work with 10-14 days after surgery, or you may need to recuperate for up to 3-4 weeks.
