As we age, the skin and underlying muscles of the eyelid weaken and stretch, and fat accumulates around our eyes. Drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags add years to the face, making us look older and more tired than we feel. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can correct these features by removing excess skin, muscle, and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. Your eyes will look more youthful and better rested.

What are the goals of the procedure?

Eyelid surgery will remove the excess eyelid skin and fat that causes puffy bags and drooping eyelids.

How long does the surgery take?

Eyelid surgery requires 1-3 hours of surgery, depending on the extent of correction that you require. If performed in combination with other procedures, the surgery will take longer.

What can I expect after surgery?

After an eyelid surgery procedure, you will see a mild amount of swelling and bruising, most of which will usually resolve in 48-72 hours. Full resolution of swelling and discoloration is usually complete within 10-14 days. You will need to keep your head elevated and apply cold compresses to the eyelids for the first 24-36 hours after your surgery. Your sutures will be removed 3-5 days after the surgery.

When can I return to work?

Most patients return to work one week after their eyelid surgery.
